Where technique is learned and friends are made

Joanna McHugh

Joanna has been dancing since the age of 6 at NSDA. Over the years, she has trained with both the staff at NSDA and Gene Murray (whom she still continues to take class with today at the Boston Ballet School). During her years of competitive dancing, she competed regionally and nationally and performed in pieces that have won overall high score and special awards at those competitions. She has also won scholarships at the various convention scholarship auditions regionally.

Joanna is a graduate of dance teachers training through the Dance Teachers Club of Boston. She began teaching at NSDA in 2008. Many of the students she have taught have continued to pursue their love for dance in college, local dance companies or become dance instructors as well. She has choreographed group dances and solos that have been recognized with various special awards and overall high score. She has also choreographed dances that have competed nationally, including competing nationally in the Genre Cup at West Coast Dance Explosion.

Joanna graduated from Salem State University’s Nursing program in 2010. Since 2010, she has been working as an orthopedic nurse at Salem Hospital.
